11 IC 1396 the Elephant's Trunk Nebula

strong1396 and various dark nebulae including B 160, B 163, B 165 and several LDN as well /strongbr/strongDark Nebula /strongbr/IC 1396 is a great target for imaging containing a large area of interstellar dust and gas located in the constellation Cepheus at a distance of 2400 ly from Earth. The dark nebulae are fascinating to me as it seems to add such depth to the image. IC 1396 is thought to be a star forming site.br/I have imaged and processed this target a few times trying to gather as much detail as possible. A great target for acquisition as it is visible for a large part of the year and it offers opportunities to really develop imaging and processing skills. This image is my attempt at a false Hubble palette although I opted for the colour of fire as opposed to yellow for the outer regions. I just prefer how it looks.br/strongAcquisition details /strongbr/Imaged April 5th, 2021br/Imaged form my backyard in Sarnia, Ontario with my WO GT 81mm rig and Lenhance filterbr/60X180 sec lights + 25 each of darks, flats and dark flats
