12 LDN 1235 the Dark Shark Nebula
strongLDN, the Dark Shark and surrounding interstellar dust, and reflection nebula vdb 149 and vdb 150 /strongbr/strongDark Nebula /strongbr/The Dark Shark nebula is a dark nebula within an area of interstellar dust that closely resembles the shape of a shark. There are also a few small but bright reflection nebulae which are a very pretty accent visually to the image. I have researched to learn more about this region but there isnrsquo;t a lot of info out there other than it is made up of interstellar dust and is very difficult to image and process.br/The dark shark has been my most challenging target to date. I had to compare stellariumrsquo;s star patterns to confirm that the plate solving had actually found and centred the target. Still unconvinced, I stacked and processed once I had about forty subs just to see if I could see any hint of the shark shape. It barely revealed its self after 3 and a half hours of integration time.(I ended up with 19 and half hours total integration time in my final image) I imaged for a few sessions then spent many more sessions processing. I think Irsquo;ll try this target again with my new rig (WO GT 81) as it has a bit wider FOV so I can collect more of the dusty regions.br/strongAcquisition details /strongbr/Imaged over 3 ndash; 4 nights in November of 2020br/Imaged from my backyard in Sarnia, Ontario using my ES 80mm CF rig and UHC filterbr/234X300 sec + 25 each of darks, flats and dark flats.
