M33 aka The Triangulum Galaxy

M33 aka The Triangulum Galaxy

One of the three large sibling Galaxies in our local group of Galaxies. The others being our very own Milky Way, and Andromeda. This one is called Triangulum (M33). At a mere 2.7 million light years, or 15000000000000000000 miles away it is under the influence of both Andromeda and the Milky Way's gravity. It's a bit more than half the size of our own Galaxy, and a quarter the size of Andromeda. Since it's so close you can make out many discrete features. I was able to capture some of them using narrow band. Zoom in to see them. The best results came from OIII, and HA, but there is a lot of HB, so I'll have to add that in as well. Apparently, this Galaxy is visible with binoculars, and you may be able to see the arms of the galaxy using a modest telescope. I'll have to give this a try. It's a large object in the sky, taking up more space than 4 full moons put together, but it requires fairly dark sky's to be able to see it.br/Imaging telescope / lensbr/ William Optics Apochromatic 81/478 mm gt81br/ Imaging camerabr/ ZWO Optical ASI 1600 MM Pro (CMOS)br/ Mountbr/ Equatorial Losmandy GM811Gbr/ Guiding telescope / lensbr/ Astromania Refractor 60/240 mm Astromania 60br/ Guiding camerabr/ ZWO Optical ASI 178 MC (CMOS)br/ Filtersbr/ Baader Planetarium H-alpha (Narrowband Hydrogen Alpha) 2.00quot;br/ Baader Planetarium H-beta (Narrowband Hydrogen Beta) 2.00quot;br/ Baader Planetarium OIII (Narrowband Oxygen 3) 2.00quot;br/ Baader Planetarium SII (Narrowband Sulfur 2) 2.00quot;br/ ZWO Optical Red 1.25quot;br/ ZWO Optical Green 1.25quot;br/ ZWO Optical Blue 1.25quot;br/ Accessoriesbr/ Focal reducer Wiliams Optical 0.8br/ Processed withbr/ PixInsight (Pleiades Astrophoto) 73.0.3683.10br/ Lights (filter Red)24 x 300 secbr/ Lights (filter Green)9 x 300 secbr/ Lights (filter Blue)18 x 300 secbr/ Lights (filter H-alpha)17 x 600 secbr/ Lights (filter H-beta)17 x 600 secbr/ Lights (filter Luminance)22 x 300 secbr/ Lights (filter OIII)25 x 600 secbr/ Lights (filter SII)3 x 600 secbr/ Total lights integration time 16:25 hours
