Messier 57 - The Ring Nebula

Messier 57 - The Ring Nebula

Messier 57 is a planetary nebula in the constellation Lyra. It sits about approximately 2567 light years away. The central star of the nebula is rather dim at only 14.8 magnitude.
It's interesting that the greenish-blue hues in the central area of the nebula are caused by the ionization of Oxygen and these particular emission wavelengths only happen under very low density conditions where only a few atoms per cubic centimeter are present.
This image was taken the night of July 19th, 2018. It was taken through a 11” Celestron EdgeHD at F10 using a Canon 60Da DSLR atop a Celestron CGEM-DX. It is comprised of 12 300s exposures, for a total of 1h of integration.
This image was taken from my backyard observatory, just outside of the the village of White Lake, Ontario.
