Messier 101 is a photograph of the Pinwheel Galaxy in Ursa Major. What made this image special was the fact it was taken on 2012 May 12, when a supernova was imbedded in one of its arms. A total of 11 10-minute guided sub images were taken through an Orion 8″ Ritchey-Chrétien astrograph using a modified Canon XSi DSLR operating at ISO 1600, which were combined with Dark and Flat frames in ImagesPlus. The image was taken at Sky Trails Observatory in Summerland, B.C.
