Comet Lovejoy. There is nothing more beautiful or awe-inspiring than a tailed comet, particularly one as large and bright as Comet Lovejoy in 2015. In the pre-dawn sky of January 19, with scudding clouds interrupting the view at Sky Trails Observatory in Summerland, B.C., a run of 60 90-second exposures was taken with a modified Canon XSi DSLR operating at ISO 1600. Eighteen of the best were selected and combined with dark frames using the Blair MacDonald method in ImagesPlus. A Borg 101E apo in f/4.2 astrograph mode fed the camera.
