A Barnard Gathering. Dark nebulae can be dramatic in a photograph, illustrating William Herschel’s impression they were “holes in heaven.” On 2015 January 19, a Borg apo operating in “regular” f/6.3 mode was used to picture the area in Scutum containing the bottom part of Barnard 110, as well as B107 and B106. The telescope fed a modified Canon XSi DSLR operating at ISO 800, capturing 10 10-minute exposures that were combined with dark frames in ImagesPlus.
