Messier 27, the Dumbbell Nebula. This picture of the supernova remnant was taken on 2009 June 26. What made this image special for me was using a large JMI NGC 18″ f/4.5 reflector to capture the 7.5-magnitude object with relatively short exposures. Three 60-second and 8 30-second exposures were taken with a Canon 10D DSLR at prime focus. The guided-light images were combined with dark images in ImagesPlus. The image was taken at Sky Trails Observatory in Summerland, B.C.
