08 NGC 2244
NGC 2244, the heart of the Rosette. This brilliant, jewelled open cluster is charming in the eyepiece, but becomes a piece of jewellery when the surrounding Rosette nebula is brought out in deep-sky images to frame it. At Sky Trails Observatory in Summerland, a total of 15 10-minute guided exposures were taken on 2015 February 18 with a modified Canon XSi DSLR operating at ISO 1600, using a Borg 101E apo in f/4.2 astrograph mode. The light images were combined with dark images in ImagesPlus.
