The Iris Nebula (NGC 7023)

The Iris Nebula (NGC 7023)

strongThe Iris Nebula (NGC 7023)/strongbr/The Iris Nebula from my backyard in London ON. This was the first real dark nebula I tried to process. When I first saw images of this target I knew it was one I needed to image. The bright reflection nebula among the dark dust clouds looked like a hidden diamond in space. Processing the dust clouds was certainly difficult and took a lot of attempts to get a final photo that I liked. This image is a stack of 340 subs with a total integration time of 8h and 20min gathered using a Skywatcher Evostar 72ed with 1.0 field flattener on a Star Adventurer 2i mount with a Canon t6i (stock) DSLR camera at iso 1600. The equipment was guided using a ZWO 30mm f/4 guidescope with asi120mm mini guide cam. The camera was controlled with NINA, and guiding with phd2. Individual subs were stacked in Deep Sky Stacker and the final image was stretched and processed in both Pixinsight and Photoshop.
