NGC 6939 and The Fireworks Galaxy (NGC 6946)

strongOpen Cluster NGC 6939 and The Fireworks Galaxy (NGC 6946)/strongbr/This open cluster and galaxy was imaged from my backyard in London Ontario. I knew I needed another open cluster to complete the RASC certificate program so I went looking for an interesting choice and came across this duo. I love how the objects look relatively close together but are actually millions of light years apart. I found it really interesting as well that the fireworks galaxy has been the home to a lot of supernovae observed in the past few decades. This image is a stack of 75 x 120s subs (2h 30min total) gathered using a Skywatcher Evostar 72ed with 1.0 field flattener on a Star Adventurer 2i mount with a Canon t6i (stock) DSLR camera at iso 1600. The equipment was guided using a ZWO 30mm f/4 guidescope with asi120mm mini guide cam. The camera was controlled with NINA, and guiding with phd2. Individual subs were stacked in Deep Sky Stacker and the final image was stretched and processed in Pixinsight.
