10-Asterism

ldquo; The Winter Hexagonrdquo;br/ I had not heard much about the asterism called the Winter Hexagon until a few years ago and I thought this was quite unique and very useful too. It is larger than most asterisms but it is very educational and by learning it, with the six alpha stars that create it, you will be on your way to learning six different constellations and their brightest stars. Starting at the top of the hexagon I have labeled the stars of Capella (Auriga), Albebaran (Taurus) , Rigel (Orion), Sirius (Canis Major), Procyon (Canis Minor) and Castor (Gemini). Some people use Pollux in Gemini, but I think Castor gives the hexagon a more balanced appearance when the stars are all connected.br/ Details: January 8, 2011, in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township, Peterborough County, Ontario.br/ Canon 400D, tripod mounted with Sigma lens at ISO 1600, 25 sec., f/4.0, 10mm (Labeled in Photoshop)
