ldquo;Orion and Friendsrdquo;br/ The constellation of Orion and this patch of the night sky is a favourite of mine because Orion acts as a signpost to so much in this region. The image I captured here illustrates this to some degree, but mostly I took the image because I liked the framing and balance of the composition. I got up early in the morning to take this image. I am looking toward the parking lot at the Killbear Provincial Park staff house so the source of the lights on the trees is from both sides of the parking lot. By centering Orion in the opening between the tree tops, they appear to be pointing to Orion. To the upper right of Orion is Taurus (including Hyades and Pleiades), above Orion is Auriga, to the upper left is Gemini, below this is Canis Minor and though the tree to the left is covering Canis Major, Lepus is visible immediately below Orion. I like the rich colours of the image and these were right out of the camera and no processing.br/ Details: October 4, 2010, at Killbear Provincial Park, Parry Sound District, Ontario.br/ Canon 400D, tripod mounted with Sigma lens at ISO 1600, 30 sec., f/4.0, 10mm
