This image captures the Milky Way in late summer on Manitoulin Island. I waited for the plane of our galaxy to be perpendicular to the landscape and took this image from a completely dark site near a lake early in the morning. The dust lanes were quite distinct visually and are contrasted starkly against the star filled sky. A bright meteor can be seen on the right and the reddish glow towards the lower left is from the planet Mars which was just out of the field of view.
7 exposures of 2 mins each at ISO 3200 were stacked and processed in Deep Sky Stacker and Photoshop to produce the image. The image was taken with an iOptron tracking mount, a Canon EOS T5i and a Tokina AT-X PROD DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 lens set to 11mm.
