At the 2015 Winter Star Party, I used the appearance of Venus on previous nights to choose a spot to shoot this conjunction of the young Moon with Venus and Mercury. That place turned out to be just a few steps from our thatched hut. To capture these scenes in one exposure, one has to judge the sky brightness and span many exposure values at one session, then see which one worked out the best. The clouds were worrisome, but I have learned that they add drama to the composition, which viewers seem to prefer.
