The Big Dipper (asterism)
This photo of The Big Dipper was taken at the Cheticamp campsite of Cape Breton Highlands National Park at 23:13 on August 30, 2022. br/ As I had hoped, the skies were clear and moderately dark. br/ I was not prepared for the large amount of extraneous light: from cars, firepits, people with flashlights, and the ranger depot.br/ I sought some relief from the light in an open field, and was able to include the treetops to underline the familiar asterism in a flat position.br/ This orientation evokes the British name for the asterism, The Plowbr/ It was shot with my Canon EOS RP on a tripod at f6.3 and ISO 6400. br/ The focal length was 24 mm so it is a true wide field view.br/ The exposure was for 13quot; and that produced some visible trailing, but you can still distinguish two of the stars on the Mizar system.br/ There was no real processing of the image other than resizing it
