7. The Double Cluster
NGC 869 and NGC 864: the Double Star Cluster in Perseus. Imaged October 27,2017. Twenty five 3-minute subs with the Tak with focal reduction, and using the Mallincam Universe and an IR/UV cut filter. Processed using Deep Sky Stacker and StarTools.br/This was the first deep-sky object I observed through a telescope. It was 1966. I was 12, and a member of the RASC Edmonton Centre at that time. In December, I went out to a dark-sky site with David Roger, then the director of the QEP, and spent most of my time charting Geminids. However, I was persuaded to take a peek through the clubrsquo;s 12-inch Newtonian, and saw the Double Cluster in all its glory.
