12 Ceres

12 Ceres

Early in our cottage stay last summer, I was catching up with reading Sky and Telescope and found an article on the opposition of Ceres. Oh! it's happening right now! So I modified my plans to include trying to capture the movement of Ceres from night to night. But as all astronomers know, planning for a particular target invites the clouds to frustrate you. So I only managed to capture Ceres on three nights of our two week stay. It was also frustrating because my old eyes were not good enough to spot Ceres visually. I had to aim the telescope and camera at more or less the right location according to the map using the red dot finder, take lots of pictures of the area and hope I could find it during the image processing. While processing the set, I quot;blinkedquot; the pictures of two different nights, alternating quickly between two aligned pictures to see which dot moved. In this image, I superimposed three aligned pictures and marked the location of Ceres with the pictures dates included.br/Date: 2020-08br/ Time: 01:00 EDTbr/ Location: Farm Lake, Ardoch, ONbr/ Equipment: Canon M100 Mirrorless camera, William Optics Z73 refractor, Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer tracking mountbr/ Settings: f/5.9, F=430mm, 30 s, ISO1600
