The Helix Nebula (NGC 7293)

The Helix Nebula (NGC 7293)

strongThe Helix Nebula (NGC 7293)/strongbr/The Helix Nebula from my backyard in London ON. This is a really well known planetary nebula that often is called ldquo; The Eye of Godrdquo; so I knew it was one I wanted to try out imaging. I had a lot of bad luck collecting data for this one - everything from early clouds, mist, and poor guiding! I think the final image turned out okay though! Planetary nebulae are really cool as looking at them is kind of like getting a glimpse of the future for our sun. Pretty crazy to think that one day our own sun and solar system will look something like this. This image is a stack of 80 x 90s subs (2h total) gathered using a Skywatcher Evostar 72ed with 1.0 field flattener on a Star Adventurer 2i mount with a Canon t6i (stock) DSLR camera at iso 1600. The equipment was guided using a ZWO 30mm f/4 guidescope with asi120mm mini guide cam. The camera was controlled with an intervelometer, and guiding with phd2. Individual subs were stacked in Deep Sky Stacker and the final image was stretched and processed in Photoshop.
