ldquo;Mercury Transitrdquo;br/ The morning of the most recent transit of Mercury I found myself on the highest hill within the City of Peterborough, Ontario, at a public view event with members of the Peterborough Astronomical Association. I set-up my gear in order to have an unobstructed view of the rising Sun. The skies were clear and the air was crisp. The image presented here was taken at 8:08 a.m., with Mercury well onto the disk of the Sun (7 orsquo;clock position) and there was a nice large active region (AR) of sunspot activity too. AR2542 is near the centre of the solar disk and looked much larger than Mercury. I successfully recorded images across the transit path. Though not as rare as a Venus Transit, it still vividly demonstrates the celestial mechanics of our solar system.br/ Details: May 9, 2016 at Ashburnham Memorial Park (Armour Hill), Peterborough, Ontario.br/ Canon 60D on a Takahashi FSQ 106, ISO 100, 1/6400 sec., 530mm, tracking with EQ6 mount.
