Set up my camera on a tripod and waited for the Sun to rise. I moved my focal length to the shortest length possible that would not show either the telephone poles or lines around me. Once I had some nice colouring of the sky I began taking pictures. I took images for about 30 minutes until the clouds completely covered the sky about 2 minutes after the sun became visible. I started trying to balance the foreground with the clouds and rays of sunlight. I decided a few minutes into my session that I did not like the look of the foreground, so I dropped my ISO to 100 and kept shortening my exposures to keep the foreground in shadow with just a hint of the snow on the ice. I moved my focus to the distant trees and then edged it a little further out to give my clouds a softer look and to try to bring up the light pillar that was rising up from where the sun was rising. This image was taken about 4 minutes before the edge of the sun was actually visible in the trees. I tried to capture the different shades of blue, purple, yellow and orange that I saw in the sky. My favorite feature is the light pillar and the redish, purple cloud bank rolling in from the right.br/Image detail: Canon T7i f5 34mm 100ISO 1/500sec
