M78 Emission Nebula

Casper the Friendly Ghost

M78 – emission nebula
Meet M78, NGC 2068 or Casper the Friendly Ghost, whichever you prefer. Personally, I don’t see Casper in here but maybe you guys can.
M78 is a lesser imaged reflection nebula intertwined with surrounding dark nebulae approximately 1700 light years away. Located in the Orion constellation just above the famous Horsehead Nebula. You can see just an edge of Barnard’s loop in the lower right corner. This was taken over 3 nights as it’s getting later in the season, and I could only get a few hours each night before it sank behind a tree.
