15_FullMoonset_1

15_FullMoonset_1.jpg Canon 60Da 70-200 @135mm f/6.3 ISO 1000br/ 20181222 14:31 UT. Edmonton, Alberta. Because this winter Moon starts a little higher up in cleaner air, it is brighter, so I needed a bracket of 7x2EV, from 1.6s down to 1/640s to prevent it from being overexposed while the longer exposure took care of the foreground. Once again the set is brought into one frame by enfuseGUI. While time-slices neatly show the progression from dark to light, I find the sharp transitions irk me. I realized how to blend them smoothly, by blending strips just after the Moon has passed, then using lighten to bring the Moon in. The first seamless blend I created causes an optical illusion called a Mach band which I had to compensate for. I had to write my own code to make a series of calls to ImageMagick to create the composite.
