13_Moon_Venus_1

13_Moon_Venus_1.jpg Canon 60Da 70-200mm @ 70mm f/6.3 ISO 640br/ 20200129 03:30 UT Edmonton, Alberta. Not terribly cold, only -10C or so, but the easterly flow with its inversion had trapped moisture in the lowest levels causing the fog and increased scattering. As usual, I made a time-lapse out of 2800 pictures, in 5-bracket sets, from 1/200 to 1.3s at 2EV separation, at 5 second intervals. Each set was sent through enfuseGUI to get a single frame without blownout Moon and showing the foreground. The cool thing is that you can trace the gradual change in colour as the extinction increases, and even see a warped trail as red Venus sets refracting to a variety of heights. The final composite is (almost) simply all the frames pushed through quot;lightenquot;. Only the first frame is then overlaid so that the earthshine and lit crescent are sharp. In previous conjunctions, I realized that the shutter shake was significant to blur some images, so I bought a more robust ballhead. [Moon and a planet]
