Projection: Fisheye (3)br/ FOV: 197 x 142br/ Ev: 15.69br/07_halocomplex_1.jpg Canon 60Da 11-14mm @11mm f/9.1 ISO 100br/ 20160319 Edmonton, Alberta. What a fantastic display! I'm only sorry I did not look earlier. Often, complex displays like this last 10 minutes, emerging from and dissipating into the classic circular 22-degree halo. Les Cowley's website is the place to go to identify all the arcs, but I cut my teeth on Robert Greenler's seminal 1979 Rainbows, Halos, and Glories. I recently estimated that I have witnessed some form of halo or segments 8000 times since my teens! It really helps to have quick access to a rooftop for an unfettered view, as well as something to block the glare of direct sunlight. Key to good pictures is to take a bracket of 3 exposures, 2EV apart if possible [in this case 1/500, 1/1600, 1/4000 sec] to capture bright inner halo and faint outer arcs. Also it is best to use a tripod to have the software produce a cleaner result compared to handheld. Finally, shoot in several directions with good overlap to create a panorama later [I use Hugin].
