This is an example of a dark moonrise, in which the Moon is much brighter than the foreground, necessitating a composite image. On this date, a very thin gap in the low clouds permitted a view of the rising Moon for about 13 minutes near the end of civil twilight (18:40 MDT). The foreground image was taken a few minutes after the Moon disappeared.
