01 Sunset Earth Shadow Rising
01 Sunset Earth Shadow Rising – I have many lovely photos of sunsets and sunrises. This is a sunset photo but I have turned the camera 180o around to capture the earth shadow rising. To me it is much more interesting from an astronomical point of view as you see the red band and the dark blue band slowly rising until they disappear about 20 degrees above the horizon. My best shots of the Earth shadow rising always seem to have a near full moon in them. During outreach presentations I use this photo to explain how the atmosphere acts like a prism and splits the sunlight.
