In November of 2016, my wife and I were vacationing in Arizona and attended an observing workshop at the Kitt Peak National Observatory. To minimize the impact of light pollution on the astronomers working on the mountaintop, at the conclusion of the workshop, all the attendees drove down together in a convoy with the car lights covered with red filters. Fortunately, before the trip down, while others explored the gift shop, I was able to slip away for a few minutes, set up my tripod, and grab a half dozen photos. The view was spectacular and this wide field shot shows the North America Nebula and M31, among numerous other objects. It would have been wonderful to stay there and shoot for hours.br/ Detail:br/ Date: November 30, 2016br/ Camera: Nikon D810br/ Lens: Nikkor 14-24mm f2.8 at 15mmbr/ Settings: 25 seconds, f2.8, ISO 2000br/ Location: Kitt Peak National Observatory, Tohono Orsquo;odham Nation Reservation, Arizona, U.S.A.
