08 Mercury Transit

On May 9, 2016 the transit of Mercury across the face of the Sun was visible from Ottawa... sort of. As is often the case with astronomical events in Ottawa, clouds got in the way. However, using a small telescope with a solar filter I managed to get several good pictures. This one shows both a sunspot and Mercury and it's obvious that the silhouette of Mercury is much darker than the sunspot. Some earthly clouds are also visible.br/Date: 2016-05-09br/ Time: 08:50 EDTbr/ Location: Ottawa, ONbr/ Equipment: Canon EOS REBEL T1i DSLR, Celestron 4.5quot; Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope with a solar filterbr/ Settings: F=1250mm, 1/160 s, ISO100
