I was stunned by the number of stars visible at night outside the city, and pointed my camera up to see what a long exposure could capture. At the time, I did not recognize I was looking at, or even taking a picture of, the milky way. It was years later when I stumbled back upon this photo that I realized it was a near-perfect composition. The photo is a single frame, cropped to look like a panoramic image, with colour correction and noise control done in Adobe Lightroom/span
