15 ISS

15 ISS

The international Space Station orbiting to the east over my apartment buildingbr/ September 17, 2022, 20:17 ADTbr/ I have seen the ISS numerous times, and snapped one photo, but I wanted to capture a longer exposure image.br/ The NASA website indicated there would be a flyover on this date going from SW to ENE starting at 8:14 pm (see supplemental image 15 ISS B). br/ I planned to set up on the north side of my building where I could see both horizons.br/ While turning the corner of the building to the location, I almpost bumped into two adult deer who were enjoying food left by one of my fellow tenants. br/ I am not sure who was more startled but they fled the scene rapidlybr/ The SW horizon was obscured by cloud and nothing was visible at 8:14br/ Shortly after I spotted it overhead and moved my camera to point east. br/ Earlier, I had taken several test frames of 1-2 minute exposures with my Canon EOS RP using a zoom lens at 24 mm focal length br/ I was able to get the proper F stop and ISO so the stars were visible and the sky bluebr/ However, the sky had darkened as I waited. br/ I took a guess and moved the ISO up to 400 at f/9 and shot a 70.5quot; exposure.br/ By this time the ISS was about 30 degrees elevationbr/ To my delight, the ISS traced out a nice arc before vanishing in the east. br/ Although there were no flashing lights to suggest a jet, I double checked and there were no flights in that part of the sky at that time.br/ The time of the exposure, 8:17, corresponded exactly to the predicted flyover time (see the supplemental image of the screenshot of the flyover times)br/ There was no editing of the image other than cropping it to remove an internal lens flare and resizing it to 1200 pixels wide.
