The Owl Nebula

M 97 or NGC 3587 – planetary nebula
Planetary nebulae have a fascinating story to tell, a dying star that still has a show to put on. I like this target for its subtle simplicity (simplicity being a relative term). I’m also pleased to have captured it because it was the last image I needed to complete my portfolio for certification but also one of the hardest to get because the clouds this year have been un-ceasing. When I finally had a cloudless night, I set up to shoot but the smoke and haze from the western wildfires were too much to shoot through. Fortunately, things did improve, and I managed to get 26 usable subs out of 60.
