06 Jupiter with Moon Shadow
Taken on August 23, 2020 in Port Coquitlam, BC, this image was my first reasonably successful attempt at capturing the surface details of Jupiter using a recently purchased ZWO planetary camera. The camera is remarkably capable of producing superior-quality images, but I have much to learn to make full use of its potential. To get started, I found third-party videos to be essential in supplementing the sparse ZWOrsquo;s user manual and highly technical on-line advice. Capture details: Prime focus image taken with a ZWO ISA 120 MC planetary camera, gain 50, exposure time 35 msec. Post-processing: ZWO images debayered in PIPP and then stacked and sharpened in Registax. Composite created and refined in Photoshop.br/I had set my equipment up that evening in a Port Coquitlam park with a spectacular view of the mountains surrounding the Lower Fraser Valley to the east. It was especially rewarding when one of several couples who had stopped by to see what I was doing accepted my invitation to come back after dark with their two teenage children to see for the first time Jupiterrsquo;s moons and Saturnrsquo;s rings. Their excitement and appreciation made the evening especially memorable.
