Title: Moon Meets Saturn
Date: Imaged 16 July 2019 (1:40 am)
Location: Halifax, NS
Equipment: Tripod-mounted Canon Rebel T3 DSLR at ISO-200 with kit lens at 55mm f/5.6; 1/10 sec and 1/50 sec exposures.
Processing: Both 1/10 sec and 1/50 sec exposures were captured in RAW16 format and converted to TIFF format using Canon’s Digital Photo Professional. Photoshop CS2 was used for layers and to adjust levels and color balance/saturation, as well as for noise removal. Microsoft Photo was used to tweak clarity, contrast, highlights, shadows, and exposure of the final jpg image, which is grayscale in order to better see lunar markings.
Comments: In order to get an image containing Saturn and the nearly full Moon showing detail, I used layers in Photoshop CS2 to merge the 1/10 sec exposure showing Saturn and the 1/50 sec exposure showing the Moon with lunar markings visible.
